Lotus Clark Type 25 Elise SC – Becomes CT 50

    By admin | September 8, 2008

Lotus was supposed to make 25 of these sub-$80,000 super-Elises for the UK and Ireland only but because of the strong market demand word on the street is Lotus will be doing 25 more. That’s great news for those looking to buy one of these limited edition Lotus Clark Type 25’s, but it does suck for those already on the buyer’s list thinking they bought a 25-piece ltd with a unique name…

The unique name makes no sense anymore, but the car is still one of the most amazing Elises ever built for the road  but I have a feeling soon these babies will be exported to the Gulf or the US…

I have heard this rumor as well from a pretty official source and am looking forward to placing an order if it all comes together, hopefully two, for the Jim Clark edition Elise SC. Based upon the better than expected equipment and value of the 60th Anniversary Edition Elise, I think Lotus has gotten the formula correct for building successful and sought after limited editions. The Jim Clark Type 25 (now CT50) and the 60th Anniversary Edition Elise are tapping into the ethos of the Lotus enthusiast. Last years, limited editions were not so much the case because of little pricing/value advantage offered to buyers and poor release timing. I can confirm the second batch of 25 made it to production as I’ve just bought number 001 of 25 (or is it 26 of 50?). I’ll be picking it up next week.
The plaque does say 001 of 25 and as far as I know only three made it to Italy (where I live). Can’t wait to track down its UK number-sake.
